Project One - Double Arc Home located in Encinitas.
This first house is located in Encinitas. It started 700 sq. ft. beach bungalow that was transformed into a beautiful 2700 sq. ft. contemporary home that we feel defines the terms innovative and classic. Transverse arches for roof lines, cascading stairs into a beautiful reflection pool, barrel vaulted ceilings with a custom concrete fire place intertwine make the space make this home inviting and tactile. Expressive use of glass has helped this space blur the lines between inside and outside. Its clean lines and use of warm materials make us proud to have been the designers of this home. We consider this a d / a / g design works flagship and would love to be able to provide this kind of expression to all of our projects.
Project Two -East Jason Street House located in Encinitas.
One of our favorite little jobs is this Encinitas home that started out as a real disaster. Its location was perfect. (Just a couple of blocks from the Ocean) Its lot size was good and the home was picked up for a song. The home and property were in serious disrepair.
It was ugly, beat up, the roof was badly damaged and structural systems were out of line with each other. Our client let us implement many simple yet strong ideas. He also made some really good decisions about material choices. What came to be is a 1700 sq. ft. craftsman style home that fits beautiful In it’s North County location. We think the final outcome is slightly understated with very inviting and classic appeal. Purchase price $525K. Investment = 270K. Appraised value 1.2 Million.
Project Three -Blacks La Jolla House.
This house is located on the bluffs overlooking Blacks Beach in La Jolla. On any given day you can look out and to the left and see many para-gliders catching thermals and swinging in graceful arcs. Looking down the canyon gives one of the most spectacular ocean views in San Diego.
The original house had a lower story addition added to it in the 1970’s. It was fairly shoddy craftsmanship in relation to the beautiful house that was originally built in the 1950’s. Even that part of the house needed some updating. We took a terrible bedroom window that looked across a descending set of unfinished stairs and looked through another widow to have a look at one of the best views in San Diego and changed it around entirely. We placed a steel moment frame in the connection point, expanded the bedroom, and turned the stairs direction to maximize the renovation of the downstairs into a beautiful office with guest quarters and small but full bath. We also changed the deck railing to another ¾” glass rail that keeps the gorgeous view in tact. In the before and after pictures you can really see the changes and the difference we have helped make. They are subtle…and then again…they are not so subtle. As you can see…our client is very happy.
Project Four - Northpark House.
This house has a couple of our favorite clients. It was tough job, but a pleasure to work with them. Three stories in the North Park area of San Diego brought all kinds of code and structural restrictions into play. A very restrictive budget also played into the entire job. The clients really wanted to separate from the style of the original craftsman home that it needed to connect to, due to code. Both clients are in the restaurant business. So, we created a connection point between the two structures that serves as a new and improved dining room and opens to a trellised deck that can also serve as a summer eating area. It is a contemporary home with five decks and a bit of an industrial meets southwest flair. The stair case is particularly nice with windows that bounce light in from two directions. The layout is clean and open. Total increase to the lot equaled 3853sq.ft. Almost maximizing the sights Floor area ratio. This addition brought this entire home up $340,000 in value.
Project Five - The Wing house.
The Wing house is modeled (slightly) towards an Indonesian style home. We truly enjoy the use of Redwood and Honduras mahogany woods that give this home a warm an inviting feel.
Heavy timber post and beam work in conjunction with an open floor plan combine to make this unique and inviting space. The entire work flows. Maximizing views and integrating energy efficient design.
Project Six -The Mediterranean House.
The Mediterranean home. This 8000 sq. ft. home is a ground up construction that has been designed as a Mediterranean styled classic. It has just finished construction.
Floating spiral staircases and cantilevered bridge work adorn the interior of this home.
The owners spared little expense when building this home. It has just been completed and we will have more pictures soon.
Project Seven - Island style pool.
This pool (Located in North County San Diego) is connected to a home that was done entirely in Island style. More pictures of the house to come soon. The pool has a weeping wall, two cascading water falls and a hot tub. Truly an oasis for family and friends.
Project Eight - North County Deck.
This beautiful deck with fire-pit and bench (Located in Del Mar) is connected to a modern rectilinear home. (house my other architect) the soft curvilinear deck that looks out on to the ocean in guarded by a ¾” glass guard rail that keeps the view to the ocean unobstructed.
